Designing the Ultimate Storage&nbsp;SuperApp

We’re designing a Super App that combines all our products into one place and adds many new features. This will help reduce the need for other 3rd party apps to manage images and files.

DigiBoxx is India’s first cloud storage company, with a valuation of over $15M and more than 100K downloads on the Play Store and App Store. It offers a reliable digital file storage and cloud backup solution specifically tailored for the Indian market.

At our cloud storage App, our vision is to transform the way individuals and businesses perceive, manage, and utilize their data. We want to create an app which has all the cloud storage features under one roof and very easy and simple to use user experience. Our mission is to provide secure, reliable, and scalable cloud storage solutions that cater to the diverse needs of our customers while setting new industry standards for innovation, security, and accessibility.

I worked with another designer Harshil Soni(UX Designer) on this project. Also closely worked with Bharath Kumar(Business Growth Analyst). While me and Harshil were working on the UX part and UI, Bharath helped us from the Business and user point of view. That’s how we have done good amount of research on each phase and tried to create trigger and action points.

We are designing a single app where you can effortlessly store all your files, images, and memories, and share them seamlessly with just a wink. The app combines powerful functionality with a modern, minimalist design, enabling users to store, share, edit, and transfer large files with ease. Additionally, it comes loaded with various AI features to enhance your overall user experience.

We were running on the as we have got a very less time and we are the only 2 people who are working on the project. According to me their should be more people in the team for such a big project but we are designers and working on limitations is nothing new to us. So we have got 9 weeks timeline and bunch of questions.

Understanding the User Needs and competition

In this user interview, I have chosen to conduct extensive research to deeply understand the needs, behaviors, and preferences of potential users. By thoroughly exploring their experiences with current file storage and transfer solutions, we can uncover pain points and unmet needs that our SuperApp aims to address. This comprehensive approach ensures that we gather detailed insights, enabling us to design a product that truly resonates with users and offers significant value, ultimately leading to higher user satisfaction and adoption.

There are 2 categories where from where we have identified and finalized the features to put in the SuperApp: 1. Problems from the existing App. 2. User problems with other Apps.

Key Insights for pain points in competitors apps:

The biggest challenge for any app with numerous features is ensuring it remains simple to use. These types of apps prioritize usability over fancy design. We drew inspiration from the Bento box — not the bento grids, but the compartments/spaces that separate different dishes. Similarly, we created distinct spaces within the app, allowing users to easily switch between services. We divided these spaces into two main categories: Individual and Business. Each of these categories contains various sub-spaces to further streamline navigation and usability.

Once the UI screens were designed, we conducted usability tests with real users to evaluate the app’s flow and ease of navigation.

Participants were asked to complete tasks to assess how intuitive the interface was. Their feedback highlighted areas of friction, confusion, and specific features they found useful or unnecessary.

This stage helped us pin point what was working well and what needed improvement.

Using insights from the user testing, we revisited our designs to make necessary changes.

We optimized navigation, simplified certain features, and refined the overall user journey.

For example, we adjusted layouts, added clearer labels, and improved responsiveness. This iterative process allowed us to enhance the design to better meet user expectations and improve the app’s overall functionality.

Reflecting on the entire process, the project taught us valuable lessons about balancing functionality with simplicity.

Working within the constraints of time and resources required prioritizing core features and maintaining a user-centered approach throughout the design process.

The final product not only addressed the user’s needs but also delivered a more intuitive experience for users.

This case study demonstrates the importance of continuous feedback loops and iteration in creating a successful digital product.
